/THE BEAUTY OF SAILBOAT BAY
Thanks to everyone who contributed these amazing images of our special paradise, Sailboat Bay! Thanks especially to Ashby who sent the lead photo and this lovely quote: “Either you love everything or there is reason to doubt that you love anything”.—-Richard Rohr, “The Universal Christ”
I hope everyone has a safe and meaningful holiday season!

PURRRFECT CATS (and a few more DOGS)
Let’s meet the CATS of Sailboat Bay (and a few more dogs that were not included last month)! If your cat is not featured here, please email a photo to michelle@navigatecontent.com and I’ll be happy to add them!
MEET OUR NEW NEIGHBORS
Please welcome the newest members of our amazing Sailboat Bay community!
William and Diana Weaver recently moved into 1032 D and almost have the place setup. They lived just North of Montgomery, Alabama for the past 23 years and are now full-time residents of Sailboat Bay. Unfortunately they are not retired and continue to work full time. William is a Locomotive Engineer with CSX Railroad and Diana is a Manager with Rack Room Shoes. They have two fur babies. Jinx a boxer-mix and Roxy a English Bulldog.
They plan on taking more time to relax then they have the last 23 years!
For the last 33 years, Rudy and Laurie Klaas have been living in Africa. DRC, formerly Zaire, and Senegal. They are now full-time residents of Sailboat Bay. Rudy and Laurie are both members of the Wycliffe Bible Translators. Rudy is a reading skills acquisition consultant specializing in Africa languages in war zones, like South Sudan, Somalia, and DRC. He often works for the World Bank, USAID, Hewlett Foundation and frequents refugee camps in Darfur, South Sudan, Uganda, Chad, etc. Laurie works in Scripture Use Promotion, particularly with digital and audio recordings.
They are working remotely due to Covid and making trips back to Africa as possible. They have two children ages 26 and 27 living and working in Asheville. Rudy is an athletic trainer and Annieo is a pharm tech, as she studies and paints.
Rudy is a fishing enthusiast and is sorely in need of fishing lessons to replace his African fishing techniques. He could not get a fishing license at Walmart for the most popular African fishing technique, small explosives. Not very sportsmanlike but very effective. Rudy also coaches volleyball. Laurie likes to sew and create things, cook, and find special things.
CONVERSATION STARTER: You can ask Rudy if there is anything he hasn't eaten. Talk to Laurie about the book you appreciated a lot this this year.
FEATURED RESIDENTS
Lynn Jordan is an amazing and talented photographer and lives right here at Sailboat Bay! This image was chosen as Gulf Coast Media’s Big Beautiful Baldwin's Best in Photography for 2021!
For Veteran’s Day, the amazing residents of Sailboat Bay honored family and friends who served our great country. It was so cool to honor these incredible American heroes. Check out our facebook group to read all the unbelievable stories! But for this newsletter, we feature a couple of our current residents,
Above is COL(Ret) Dennis D. Saltzman. Dennis retired in 2009. He graduated from the Army War College in 2000. He served 34 years in the Army. His last assignment was as Inspector General for the 81st Regional Readiness Command. Thank you for your service. Serving others is a quality you exemplify.
Below is Kathryn Harrington, a proud veteran of the United States Navy. “It was such a privilege to have served my country. I am so pleased that so many more military opportunities are now available to the young women in our country. Go Navy! Go Vets!”
MAKING OUR COMMUNITY BEAUTIFUL
By Catherine Naman — Landscape Committee
The Landscape Committee will soon be asking for volunteers to help with clearing out dead shrubs and remaining storm debris located around the property. We will be meeting with a horticulturist from Alabama Extension Services this month to start planning our landscape design as we rebuild. Our plan will take several years to implement completely as it will revolve around construction and budgeted funds.
Do we have any Master Gardeners or Master Naturalists at Sailboat Bay that would like to share ideas? Please call or text Catherine Naman at 251-510-9750 and share you ideas or comments. Also please let us know if there is an area near your building that needs our attention.
Catherine Naman works hard with community volunteers to keep the grounds of Sailboat Bay beautiful! If you are aware of any landscaping needs, or if you would like to volunteer to HELP with the landscape committee, please call or text Catherine at 251-510-9750.

The obvious and welcome lack of hustle and bustle creates a quiet, communal atmosphere. Plash Island in Gulf Shores on Alabama’s Gulf Coast offers the best of both worlds—a serene island lifestyle with no tourist traffic but easy access to all the shops, restaurants, events, and attractions that are so prominent in the heart of Gulf Shores, a city that thrives on tourism.
